History of the Girls High School Lacrosse Team in St Charles

2001

The original group of girls get cooperation from STCLAX Club President, Jack Elliott, a school club sponsor, and their parents to create the original girls club team. This team of girls becomes a part of the STCLAX club. Parents of the girls team participate on the existing STCLAX board. The girls compete in IHSWLA games as a Novice team. They finished the year undefeated. Members of that original group and  others since then have gone on to play in college, create clubs in schools that did not have them, officiate games, coach teams and continue to aid the development of the sport.

The girls team competes at the Junior Varsity level. in the summer of 2002, a small group from this team went to the Lacrosse America Shootout 7v7 in Winnetka and took First Place in the tournament with a final second goal to win the championship.

2003

B&W Sticks UpIncreased recruitment allows for two teams to be created. A Junior Varsity and Varsity level team to compete in the 2003 season. This first Varsity team finishes the year seeded 9th in the State. Two players from this Varsity team are nominated to the All-State Team, participate in the Senior All-Star Game and try out for the Chicago chapter of the National tournament team.

2004

In January 2004, The St Charles Women's Lacrosse Club Board is formed by a parents group led by Mr. Michael Johnson. The team formally separates from the Boys club. The new girls club is promising to provide more attention to the needs of the female lacrosse club athletes.

In June of 2004 the first Club Sponsored introductory lacrosse camp was created. It was a (3) day event targeted at introducing middle school girls to the sport. Thirteen area girls signed up, purchased sticks and attended the camp, many subsequently joined the team when they got into High School.

2005

The growth of the sport and our club continues. We have 42 players between the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The IHSWLA has just formed Conferences that provide for more local competition between neighboring schools. There are not as many long bus rides for us or our competition to get a full season of competition.

2009

2009 Conference Champs2009 is a tough economic year. We only have 33 players on the roster between our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Our team revenues are still entirely generated by player fees and fundraising. The weather forces cancellation or rescheduling of many of our games. We managed to play all but one of our conference games and finish in style. St. Charles Women's Lacrosse Varsity Team is undefeated in conference play and for the first time since the conferences were established wins the Dupage-Upstate 8 Conference Championship. The team finished the regular season 10-2, on a 10 game winning streak.

Future

The club is dedicated to actively recruiting new players, growing the overall team roster and expanding the opportunities for interested players at all levels.

The Varsity roster should continue to expand and provide more players a chance to compete at this level, while encouraging all players to progress the level of their skills. All players will work towards success on and off the field and be provided a positive environment to learn and compete in.

We expect that the future will eventually include full sanctioning of this sport. We look forward to that evolution and dedicate our efforts to that purpose.
